Robert Peston jogs past

November 28, 2008

I was just trudging home from work when am man jogged past me. I was practically home, my mp3 player tucked into my pockets and my cigarettes stashed away. The jogger was bespectacled, wearing shorts and a t-shirt. I recognised him. As he disappeared into the distance, I called after him.

“Excuse me!” I hollered.

He stopped and turned around. I approached him.

“Are you Robert Peston?” I asked.

“Yes,” he shrugged, with a face that anticipated trouble. I can’t say I blame him.

“No. It’s ok,” I said. “It’s just a bit surreal. I was wandering home and I didn’t expect to see the man…”

The sentence remained unfinished. “…the man who ruined the economy” rolled around my brain, but I said nothing.

He gurned apologetically.

“No, no. I bear you no ill will,” I mumbled. “I’m just surprised.”

He smiled sheepishly, laughed and continued jogging. I phoned up my girlfriend to tell her the exciting news of my latest celebrity encounter.
